The Blue Zones work — and decades of research since — point to an uncomfortable idea: how people felt about their sleep, their meals, the people around them seemed to matter as much as the sleep, meals, and people themselves. Researchers like Holt-Lunstad have argued that isolation and loneliness carry risk on the order of smoking. Purpose and belonging show up again and again. That's not a promise we can hand you — it's what the science suggests, and it's why we're here.
